How to Get to Queens (and Citi Field): A New Yorker’s Transportation Guide

How to Get to Queens (and Citi Field): A New Yorker’s Transportation Guide

Queens has a reputation problem. Ask a Manhattanite how to get there and you’ll get a response like, “Uh, the 7 train? Maybe?” Ask a Brooklyn local and they’ll squint at you like you just suggested a trip to the moon.

But here’s the thing: Queens is more accessible than most people think. Located in Flushing with direct access from Manhattan, Citi Field is actually one of the easiest event venues to get to in all of New York City.

Your Transportation Options

Whether you’re heading to a Mets game, a corporate event, or a wedding reception with field views, here’s exactly how to get there from anywhere in the city.

The Easiest Way: The 7 Train to Mets–Willets Point

If you’re coming from Manhattan, the 7 train is your best friend. It’s frequent, affordable and drops you right at Citi Field’s front gate.

The 7 train stops at:

  • 34th Street–Hudson Yards
  • Times Square–42nd Street
  • 5th Avenue–Bryant Park
  • Grand Central–42nd Street
  • Queensboro Plaza
  • And several stops through Queens before reaching Mets–Willets Point

From Times Square, you’re looking at roughly 25 minutes to Citi Field. From Grand Central, about 20 minutes. The Mets–Willets Point station sits directly beside the stadium, so just follow the signs from the platform and you’ll arrive at the stadium in no time.

Transfer options if you're not already on the 7:

  • From the E, F, M, or R trains: Transfer at 74th Street–Broadway / Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue
  • From the N or W trains: Transfer at Queensboro Plaza
  • From Brooklyn (any line): Connect to the 7 in Manhattan or transfer at Queensboro Plaza via the N/W

For most visitors, the 7 train is the simplest, most affordable and reliable way to get to Queens.

The Fastest Way: LIRR Direct to Citi Field

When you need to get to Citi Field in a hurry, the Long Island Rail Road runs direct service from Manhattan to the Mets–Willets Point Station on event and game days.

LIRR direct service is available from:

  • Grand Central
  • Woodside (a quick five-minute hop from the ballpark)
  • All Port Washington Branch stations east of Citi Field
  • Penn Station

The trip from Penn Station or Grand Central to Mets–Willets Point takes less than 20 minutes, which is honestly faster than most cross-town commutes within Manhattan itself.

After Mets games and major events, the LIRR runs additional trains back to Penn Station and Grand Central, so you’re never stuck waiting. For guests coming from Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut or New Jersey via Penn Station, the LIRR to Citi Field is often the most efficient route in the entire city.

By Car: Parking, Drop-Offs, and Getting Around the Highways

Driving to Citi Field is more straightforward than driving almost anywhere else in NYC. And once you arrive, parking is plentiful (a true rarity in the city).

Citi Field is directly accessible from:

  • The Grand Central Parkway
  • The Whitestone Expressway
  • The Van Wyck Expressway
  • The Long Island Expressway (LIE)
  • Northern Boulevard
  • Roosevelt Avenue

Parking at Citi Field: The stadium offers plenty of on-site parking spaces from across multiple lots.

Rideshare and taxi drop-offs: Uber, Lyft, and yellow cabs all have designated drop-off and pick-up zones on game days.

A note on traffic: Game days and big events do bring congestion to the Grand Central Parkway and the Van Wyck, so if you’re driving, give yourself a 30-minute cushion beyond what your map app suggests. Or, of course, consider the train or subway.

Travel Times from Across the City

No matter where you’re starting from, Citi Field is so much more reachable than most people realize. Here’s a rough (emphasis on rough) guide to travel times by transit.

  • Midtown Manhattan: 20–25 minutes via 7 train or LIRR
  • Lower Manhattan: 35–45 minutes via 7 train (transfer at Times Square)
  • Brooklyn (Downtown / Williamsburg): 40–50 minutes via subway transfers
  • The Bronx: 45–55 minutes via the 6 or 4 train, transferring to the 7 at Grand Central
  • Staten Island: 75–90 minutes via the Staten Island Ferry, then the 7 train. Or take the seasonal Seastreak ferry directly to Citi Field on some game days
  • Long Island (Nassau / Western Suffolk): 30–60 minutes via LIRR Port Washington Branch
  • LaGuardia Airport: 5–10 minutes by car or rideshare
  • JFK Airport: 25–30 minutes by car

If your guests are coming in from anywhere in the tri-state area, Citi Field is one of the most centrally located, large-capacity event venues you can book.

Other Ways In: Bus, Bike, and Ferry

Subways and trains do most of the heavy lifting, but Queens has a multitude of public transportation options.

By bus: The Q90 limited bus runs along Seaver Way with stops adjacent to Citi Field’s parking lots. Several other Queens routes (Q19, Q66, Q44) connect to the 7 train at various stations throughout the borough.

By Citi Bike: Citi Field now sits at the eastern edge of the Citi Bike service zone, with stations at Mets Plaza near the Home Run Apple and at the pedestrian plaza near Shea Road. From there, you can ride west into Corona, Jackson Heights, and beyond.

By ferry: Seasonal Seastreak ferry service connects Citi Field to Highlands, NJ and Staten Island on some Mets home game days. The ferry docks at the World’s Fair Marina, a 10-minute walk from the Left Field Gate. Limited service, but a genuinely scenic option if your event lines up with their schedule.

Now That You Know How to Get Here, Why Not Host Your Next Event?

That was about 1000 words to hammer home the point that Citi Field isn’t just easy to reach; it’s one of the most flexible, accessible, and unforgettable event venues in New York City. With multiple subway and rail lines feeding directly to the front gate, thousands of on-site parking spaces, and direct access from every major NYC roadway, your guests will arrive easily and leave talking about the experience for years to come.

From corporate galas to weddings, premieres to product launches, Citi Field hosts the kinds of events your guests will actually look forward to attending. And the fact that it’s only a 20-minute ride from Midtown? That’s just the cherry apple on top.

Now it's your time: Plan your event at Citi Field.
